How to Design an Attractive and Efficient Laundry Room

The laundry room is the epitome of small but mighty! Often one of the littlest rooms in the house, it is also one of the most worked. In many households it is doubtful a day goes by without a visit here…especially if this room has multiple uses. Here are some tips on making this little workhorse room productive, attractive and a place you won’t mind visiting over and over again!

Personalize it. From a decorating perspective, there are so many fun ways to make this area fun, bright and inviting. You can paint it a bold color, add attractive shelving and cabinets, use washable throw rugs or interesting floor tiles, install quartz countertops, hang pictures, etc. Because of its size, the cost to upgrade is much less than a larger room in the house.

Prepare zones. Wash, dry, sort, fold. These are the basic functions of this utility room, so have spaces dedicated to each. Install a countertop along an opposite wall for folding and sorting, but if space is limited you can install a countertop over the washer and dryer.

Add conveniences. To get the most bang for your buck in this area, add items like a wall-installed ironing board, a hanging rod, hooks, etc., for other laundry related activities. If room permits, install a small TV or keep a Bluetooth speaker in the space to keep your mind off the tasks this room demands of you.

Maximize space with good storage. Storage is key in here. Don’t waste any potential for baskets, shelving, cubbies, cabinets, etc. If you have space between the cabinet tops and the ceiling add pretty baskets where you can put overflow items like detergents, hangers, etc. If you have space above your washer and dryer add a long shelf for easy access to your washing-up must haves. Get creative!
