A Special Homebound Valentine’s Day

As with many of the holidays over the past few months, we’ve had to shift and create a new way of doing things. Often Valentine’s is a day for couples to enjoy a romantic evening at their favorite restaurant or very special spot. This year, you may be spending it alone, with your partner or with all your children underfoot. Nevertheless, it can be still be just as fun and dreamy.

Plan Ahead for Dinner. Like every Valentine’s Day during normal times, restaurants book up fast, and getting takeout may be no different. Check to see if your favorite eatery has a special menu and order ahead so you’re not disappointed.

Get Creative at the Table. Ensure dinner at home with the kids is extra special on this extra special day. Instead of placemats use doilies. Drop a little red food coloring into the milk to turn it pink. Serve sparkling juice in wine glasses. Watch a YouTube video and learn how to fold napkins into a flower. Your kids will love all the extra sweet touches at mealtime.

Watch a Romantic Movie. If you have children, nearly all princess movies come with a Prince Charming, a sappy, sweet plot and a happy ending. If it’s just the two of you stream a romcom classic like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “An Affair to Remember” or “Pride and Prejudice.”

Get Crafty. There are loads of fun Valentine’s Day crafts on the internet to make at home. During the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, create as many fun items as you and your kids can and then decorate the house with all of them. Your house will be an explosion of hearts!

Fondue Fun. This is the perfect meal for couples and for kids. If it’s just the two of you, fondue is the ultimate, romantic way to share a delicious meal. But with kids – they will never have had so much fun eating – especially if it is their first time!
