Collectively we’re experiencing an entirely new level of importance put on cleanliness. That said, it’s also become increasingly more difficult to find tried and true cleaning products at the store. In response, we’ve come up with a list of tasks you can tackle with vinegar to keep everything in your house spic and span!
What not to clean – Because of its chemical make up avoid waxed woods, rubber, natural stone, granite, cast iron and aluminum.
Rust – Rusty tools will appreciate a straight vinegar bath. Simply submerge all your rusty items into a pail and let them soak. Use a brush to clean them.
Glass and mirrors – Prepare a mixture of one part vinegar and one part water and pour into a spray bottle. Spray glass surfaces and wipe off with a reusable cloth.
Hard water spots – Heat up white vinegar on the stove and then let it cool until it’s a temperature you can handle. Pour into a spray bottle and spray the damaged area. Let it sit 15 minutes and then wipe.
Cloudy wine glasses – Soak them in non-diluted vinegar for a few minutes and then wipe them with a soft cloth and wash as normal. The vinegar should dissolve the mineral buildup.
Cutting boards – Whether they are wood or plastic, a good wipe with vinegar on a clean cloth will clean and disinfect them nicely.
For simplicity, you can prefill and label two spray bottles – one with straight vinegar and one with a 1:1 vinegar/water solution. That way you can grab and go when you need to.
