If this is the first holiday season in your new home, this is an exciting time. If you’re like some people, you may have already been mentally placing garland and holly on the mantelpiece when you walked through the model home your very first time. Now that you’ve moved in, it’s time to DECK THE HALLS! If you don’t know where to start or you need some ideas, we’re here to help.
Garlands Galore. Not just for the staircase railing or the fireplace mantle, consider hanging them in unexpected places like tops of cabinets and shelves, on top of clocks, draped over doorways and window, etc. The greener your rooms the better!
Book Baskets. If you’re expecting young and old visitors for the holidays, display your holiday books in baskets or pretty boxes where they can be reached and read. You can mix up the content with classics like A Christmas Carol and The Gift of the Magi and place alongside The Polar Express and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Outdoor Living. If your home features a courtyard or an outdoor living area you can use during the cooler months, decorate there too. An outdoor fireplace mantle will sparkle with twinkly lights and even a little tree will look festive while you’re roasting s’mores and telling holiday stories.
Wreaths. You can never go wrong with a welcoming holiday wreath on the front door of your home, but why stop there? Powder rooms, downstairs bedrooms or basically any room with a door is game for a holiday wreath on either side or both.
Embrace Winter Flowers. Of course, the standard poinsettia is available at nearly every supermarket during December, but you can also plan in advance and grow bulbs like amaryllis or paper white daffodils that will bloom during the holidays. Check your local gardening center for the starter kits.
