Having Fun at Home When You Can’t Go Out

For many of us our kids’ spring breaks came a little sooner than we thought and are scheduled to last a little bit (a lot?) longer! So in preparation for those long days ahead for you and your children and in keeping in accord with social distancing, we’ve scoured the internet for websites to visit where you can explore and do fun, interesting and educational activities right from home.

Get moving! Everyone needs a little exercise, so use this time to hike with your family in nearby trails or around the perimeter of a park, allowing for appropriate social distancing. If venturing out isn’t possible, then stream exercise shows directly from YouTube and turn your family room into a temporary fitness center for parts of the day.

Learn a new language. The BBC offers a page where you can, for free, learn new languages from Portuguese to Greek. Each course includes audio, video, vocabulary, grammar and tests.

Listen to classical music. Since visiting venues is not possible, many world class performers are offering free broadcasts you can listen to at home. This page includes links and instructions to enjoy music from such famous ensembles as the Berlin Philharmonic to the Vienna State Opera to the Detroit Symphony.

Explore a museum. Head to London or Paris to wander through their incredible exhibits without leaving the kitchen table. Famous museums like the British Museum and the Louvre offer online virtual visits where you can view and interact with certain exhibits and rooms. Check out this list for even more cultural icons to see.

Go to a Coldplay concert. What!? Some very famous musicians are giving concerts at home you can watch on demand. Follow this link to performances from Chris Martin, Keith Urban and John Legend.

Home schooling and working at home is an inevitable certainty for the next few weeks for a lot of people. How wonderful the technology available to us allows us to visit places virtually and listen to a variety of entertainment to keep things just a little bit more interesting.

From all of us to you, we wish you and your families good health.
