Your Master Suite

Finding Serenity in Your Master Suite

Probably the most important room in your home is your bedroom. After all this is where you go to rest and recharge every single day. In a lifetime we spend 229,961 hours in bed – the equivalent of 26 years! This space should feel welcoming and relaxing, so you can get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start a new day. For this to happen surround yourself in an atmosphere that provides everything necessary to be rejuvenated.

Make your bed. Turns out your parents were right all along! Making your bed doesn’t just give your room a tidier and healthier look and feel, the simple act gives you a sense of accomplishment, which can reduce stress levels.

Invest in a quality mattress. Visit mattress stores in person to get a hands-on test run and ask your friends and family for referrals. Don’t settle for the least expensive option. Put a lot of thought and possibly more money into this well-used purchase. Your back and limbs will thank you over and over again!

Insist on excellent bedding. Another place to splurge is your linens. Determine what type you prefer – from flannel to sateen to luxurious cottons – and binge on the highest end versions of each. You should only need two sets of everything.

Keep colors neutral. It is fun to add pops of colors here and there throughout your home, but studies have shown that natural and neutral colors make for a more peaceful environment, in turn, giving you a better night’s sleep.

Cut the clutter. Living in constant clutter can be chaotic. Keeping your clothes tidy and put away will provide more serenity. If you have a lot of tidying to do on a daily basis in your bedroom, you could be exerting mental energy thinking about what you need to do.
