Most of San Diego area’s dining had to move from inside to outside to accommodate recent health guidelines, and these restaurants did a great job changing things up with little notice. But there are some local restaurants that have always had fabulous outdoor dining, so we’d like to salute and recommend a few of these OG al fresco eateries (with some help from online reviews and each restaurant’s own website). Reservations suggested for each.
Veranda Fireside Lounge & Restaurant Located at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, Veranda offers outdoor dining all day including brunch. It’s a casual spot newly designed with plush lounge furniture and a cozy fireplace to enjoy a Mediterranean menu and cocktails.
George’s at the Cove This award winning La Jolla outdoor restaurant currently offers two levels of oceanfront dining. On Level 2 at George’s guests can enjoy house made cocktails and a casual lunch and dinner menu. Its Ocean Terrace Bar serves a full menu daily with food and drink specials – all while overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean.
Queenstown Public House Located in San Diego’s Little Italy Queenstown Public House is a New Zealand (yes!) inspired restaurant serving happy hour, lunch or dinner outdoors on its welcoming and unique patio. On top of its kiwi hospitality, it is also dog friendly!
Coasterra Featuring commanding views of the bay on Harbor Island, Coasterra – part of the renowned Cohn Restaurant Group – is a Mexican restaurant where the views are unparalleled from the blue sea to the San Diego skyline. Its spacious outdoor area is open for lunch and dinner and the patio opens at 11:30.
