Here are some local areas that illuminate the beauty of fall in the San Diego area.
The 1,200-acre Balboa Park is chock full of gardens, trees, hiking trails and pathways where you can see fall flowers and the changing foliage of the Chinese flame trees, Fremont cottonwoods and pecans. Also, to note on the corner of Quince and 6th Avenue are beautiful color-morphing sweetgum trees.
Not just for apple picking, Julian is the perfect seasonal go to throughout the year, but in the fall it really shines! Grab your best walking shoes and enjoy the 1.65-mile Canyon Oak Trail within William Heise County Park for unforgettable views.
Mount Laguna, approximately one hour east, is one of the most popular places to see fall foliage. Ripe with hiking trails, local eateries and a general store, the three-mile Sunset Trail will send you through a dense pine forest complete with panoramic views. Along the trail you’ll be rewarded with colors of yellow, red and orange.
A bit further out and worth the drive are Mount San Jacinto State Park, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Palomar Mountain State Park. Each park offers an array of picturesque hiking trails where you’ll get your fill of autumn beauty.
