This year, the Easter bunny may have to be a little more creative with his bag of tricks when it comes to throwing a festive and fun Easter for your children. One of the many activities children look forward to every year is a big community egg hunt. Since that won’t be happening this year, here are some ways to make sure your Easter is fun and celebratory while staying safe.
- Plan early. If you want to cook and serve a traditional Easter dinner, plan ahead with your shopping list and be flexible on alternative food items. And if you want to dye Easter eggs with your children, start looking soon for eggs, vinegar and dying kits.
- Involve your neighbors. If your neighborhood has a community Facebook page or bulletin board, plan some fun activities that everyone can participate in while social distancing. For example, you can suggest everyone place pictures of colored eggs in their windows and then you can walk around the streets with your children to “find” them.
- Chalk drawings. Encourage your kids to draw brightly colored eggs on the sidewalks and driveways in front of their own homes. These eggs can also be part of the neighborhood egg hunt.
- Create a different egg. If you can’t find enough real eggs to dye or you don’t have the materials at home to do so, get creative! You can cut egg shapes out of paper and color them, knit them, sew them, crochet them, etc. Then leave your eggs in a place where the Easter Bunny can find them to hide for a traditional Easter morning egg hunt.
- Gather with friends and family. Since in person gatherings aren’t allowed, turn to technology and invite everyone in your family with a computer or a device to join you for your celebration. Some of the more popular virtual meeting apps are Zoom, Group FaceTime, Google Hangouts and WhatsApp.
Keeping our kids busy and entertained is one of the many priorities in so many families right now. We hope these suggestions are helpful to you, so your family can still celebrate this very traditional holiday with lots of joy, fun and tradition.
