Our beautiful homes at Cornerstone Communities come with many opportunities to customize to your own design style from cabinets to countertops to floors. And with floors there are myriad choices available especially when it comes to wood…or wood like products. If you love the look of wood, but just aren’t 100 percent convinced real timber floors are the route you want to take, here is a look at some of the very beautiful alternatives.
Luxury vinyl plank flooring. Once upon a time, vinyl floor conjured up memories of basement apartments and grandma’s original kitchen, but this is not true anymore. High quality luxury vinyl plank is not just gorgeous to look at, it’s also affordable, waterproof and scuff and wear resistant.
Wood look porcelain tile. An easy-to-maintain alternative, it is surprising just how much quality tile can look like the real thing. And unlike real wood, it is moisture resistant and keeps rooms cooler. It’s extremely durable, and there are lots of choices from the color to the grain to the plank size.
Laminate. Another affordable option is laminate, which is great for busy areas like kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Like vinyl it isn’t afraid of lots of walking and traffic, and there are many color and style options. Because of its top coating, it is a master against fading and stains.
Bamboo. This more modern option isn’t just easy to clean and tough on foot traffic, it also wins the sustainability award. Its eco-friendly persona is versatile and stylish too. Consider this an affordable, greener option.
Cork. Just like the bottle stopper, cork floors are resistant to mold, mildew and moisture. It’s an attractive alternative that is softer to walk on than hard products like tile or wood and it has the added health benefit of being anti-allergenic.
Engineered wood. This highly durable option looks and feels the most like real wood, because basically it is real wood! The main difference between hardwoods and engineered woods is a layer (veneer) of wood on top versus a solid wooden board. While it can’t be sanded like real wood can be, it is more resistant to temperature changes and humidity.
